About the Institute

Dr. Achanta Lakshmipathi Research Centre for Ayurveda was established on 1st February 1965 under the Central Council for Ayurvedic Research, Ministry of Health, Govt. of India. The Unit was taken over by the Central Council for Research in Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy, New Delhi on 1st August, 1971. Then it was taken over by the Central Council for Research in Ayurveda and Siddha on 7th January, 1979 and it was upgraded as a Research Centre in June 1985. This Research Centre is situated in the second floor of Voluntary Health Service (VHS), from the generous grants given by Dr. Achanta Lakshmipathi, an allopathic physician the Lakshmipathi Block was built and it stands as a lasting legacy in his memory. A separate room in the O.P.D block is given for Ayurvedic O.P functioning at ground floor. The Institute as renamed as Dr. Achanta Lakshmipathi Regional Ayurveda Research Institute with reference to the Letter vide. F.No.12-39/2015-CCRAS/Estt.4788, on 22nd Dec 2020.

Mandate

Clinical Research on life-style related and non-communicable diseases.

Activities

This centre is conducting clinical trials on different disease conditions, providing Health care services through General OPD, speciality OPD for Flu like illness every day and Geriatric speciality OPD on every Tuesday from 10 am to 1pm. Apart from this we are conducting Mobile Health Care Programmes, like Tribal Health Care Research Project (THCRP), Scheduled Casts Sub Plan (SCSP) and Swasthya Rakshan Programme (SRP).

Achievements

This centre has taken up basic research related to fundamental principles of Ayurveda viz., Prakriti assessment, predicting proneness to constitutional diseases like Diabetes, Bronchial Asthma etc., Clinical trials on various diseases like Obesity, Mental Retardation, Tropical eosinophilia, Vitiligo, Malaria, Anxiety neurosis, Headache, Hypertension etc., were completed. Published works on Bhela Samhita, Bheshajakalpa, Netra Prakashika, Dhanvanthari Vilasam, Nanavidha Vaidyam, Pathyapathya Vinischayam, Kaumaratantram, Netraroga Nidanam, Ashtanga Hridayam and Satasloki under literary research.

Recent clinical research studies on Dysmenorrhea, Osteo-arthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Rasayana effect of Ashwagandhadilehya and also the documentation of reported episodes of prevention and treatment of vector borne diseases in Ayurveda and Siddha, Madhumeha, Chyavanaprasa Clinical trial on apparently healthy subjects were completed.

Research Publications

ALRCA had published 82 Research papers in various National & International Journals, participated and presented scientific papers in 81 national and international seminars, also contributed 4 research monographs.

Awards

In recognition of significant contribution in Research on Ayurveda, ALRCA had won 13 gold medals and 2 silver medals from different organizations on various occasions. Received a Consolation Shield from Town Official Language Implementation Committee (TOLIC) Chennai, for best performance under smaller category offices in the progressive use of Hindi during the year 2014-15.
