Importance of Nasya in Today’s Era: A Practical Approach

Nasya means instillation of medicine through nostrils. In Ayurvedic text five types of Panchakarma are described that is Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Nasya and Raktamokshana. Today’s environment is very much polluted and due to inhalation of polluted air so many respiratory diseases affects the society like congestion, allergies, chronic cough, rhinitis and various breathing problems. In chronic stage it will developed COPD, asthma and bronchitis etc. diseases. In Ayurveda prevention of these burning problems can be made through Nasya therapy. Nasya has various types and benefit has a long list but here we discuss how we can use Nasya in our daily routine life in easy way. We can maintain a healthy life by simply pouring 2 – 2 drops of cow’s ghee in every nostril daily. It’s called Pratimarshanasya. It may be taken daily whole life. It should be taken after teeth brushing, before going to outside and after coming home in evening etc. This therapy cleanses, purifies and strengthens the nasal passages. When we administrated ghee through the nostrils, it may prevent inhalation of those unwanted particle which enters through nasal passage with polluted air. Nasya also increases our immune power and prevent other diseases also like hair fall, premature graying of hairs, chronic headache, coryza, eye diseases, etc.
